Blender - Geometry Nodes Fade Effects

• 5 min read

What is This Setup?

A Geometry Nodes template that creates distance-based fade effects on geometry. The setup uses a simulation zone to animate the fade over time, storing attribute values that drive material opacity or other visual properties.

How It Works

The node graph combines several key elements:

  • Distance Node – Calculates distance from a source point to each vertex
  • Simulation Zone – Allows the effect to evolve over time with persistent state
  • Store Named Attribute – Saves the calculated fade values to geometry for material access
  • Set Material – Applies the final shaded result

The math nodes (Multiply, Maximum) control the falloff curve and intensity of the fade, giving you precise control over how sharp or soft the transition appears.

Use Cases

  • Animated reveal effects for text or logos
  • Energy pulse/shockwave visualizations
  • Proximity-based material transitions
  • Fog or atmosphere effects on terrain
  • Interactive distance-reactive surfaces

Template Features

  • Non-destructive Geometry Nodes workflow
  • Simulation-ready for animated effects
  • Attribute output for flexible material control
  • Easy to customize falloff and timing
